This period promises to enhance mutual exchanges between the two nations in economics, trade, culture and politics. It is known to all that Chinese Medicine (CM) is considered as China's national essence and treasure. CM has taken a big stride under the guidance of the Chinese Government's the strategic policy of “Integrating Chinese Medicine” and ”Supporting the Development of Chinese medicine and National Pharmaceutical industry”. Through the unremitting effort over more than ten years, Professor Lin Tzi Chiang (T. Chiang Lin), National President, Federation of Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture Societies, Australia Ltd. and Vice Chairman of the World Federation of Societies (WFCMS), Victoria became the first state in a western country to regulate, via statutory regulation, the practice of Chinese Medicine. The Chinese Medicine Registration Act 2000 was passed in Victorian parliament in Victoria on 9 May 2000 and the Chinese Medicine Registration Board set up. In the past few years, CM has made a great progress in Australia and has successfully established a foothold in mainstream society in western countries.
The Organizing Committee has decided to hold the China-Australia Chinese Medicine Forum 2008 as the first activity of the China-Australia Friendship Promotion Program with the purposes of celebrating the 8th anniversary of statutory regulation of Chinese medicine in Victoria, promoting the process of Chinese medicine regulation in other states, and facilitating the transmission and development of Chinese Medicine throughout the world.
