In November 2024, China and Brazil signed a joint statement designating 2026 as the “China-Brazil Cultural Year, ” aiming to strengthen cultural ties and promotion of the two countries’ diverse and creative cultures. In May 2025, the leaders of both countries reaffirmed their commitment to establishing 2026 as the “China-Brazil Cultural Year,” pledging to further deepen exchanges and cooperation in culture, science, technology, healthcare, and other fields.

 

The World Federation of Chinese Medicine Societies (WFCMS), an international academic organization in the field of TCM, currently boasts 303 society members from 78 countries and regions. To promote the high-quality development of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) in the Americas and deepen China-Brazil cooperation and people-to-people exchanges in the health sector, the “The 5th WFCMS Americas Forum on Traditional Chinese Medicine Cooperation and Development ” will be held in Brazil in May 2026.

 

The “5th Brazilian Congress of Traditional Medicine” is planned to be held concurrently with the Forum. The Brazilian Congress of Traditional Medicine is Brazil’s largest comprehensive and complementary medicine health event. In 2006, techniques such as acupuncture were incorporated into the Brazilian National Public Health System (SUS). In 2024, Brazil announced the permanent legislation RDC 901, marking a legal and compliant registration basis for Chinese patent medicines in Brazil. The holding of these conferences will further promote the development of traditional medicine in Brazil.

 

TCM, as a treasure of Chinese civilization, and this conference have been listed as key projects of the “China-Brazil Cultural Year” .
