The 158th session of the World Health Organization's Executive Board (158th EB)was held from February 2 to 7 at WHO headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland. The meeting emphasized the importance of both national health sovereignty and global collaboration, adopted multiple resolutions, and laid the groundwork for the 79th World Health Assembly. At the invitation of WHO, the World Federation of Chinese Medicine Societies (WFCMS) sent a delegation composed of Vice President Anton Staudinger, Executive Board Member Christina Staudinger, and accompanying delegate Marco Schrötter.
The discussions focused on key issues such as the prevention of non-communicable diseases, mental health, strengthening primary health care, health promotion and well-being, digital health, and governance reforms.
Special attention was given to disease prevention, healthy lifestyles, and the further development of traditional medicine models within different cultural contexts. During the discussions on universal health coverage and strengthening primary health care, the WFCMS delegation proposed that traditional Chinese medicine should be systematically integrated into modern healthcare systems, thereby contributing to global health goals.
The participation of WFCMS at the meeting highlighted its role and position in of traditional Chinese medicine. Chinese medicine is increasingly recognized as a formal and professional partner in the global health dialogue—committed to jointly shaping a people-centered healthy future.
Looking ahead, as an important part of the world's traditional medicine systems, Chinese medicine is expected to play an increasingly significant role in WHO's efforts to strengthen primary health care, improve prevention and treatment in public health security, and address the growing burden of chronic diseases. WFCMS will continue to work globally to promote the building of a shared community of health for humankind.
