The 1st World Congress on Artificial Intelligence in TCM
“AI + Modern Chinese Medicine Innovation” Sub-forum
Notice of Conference (First Round)
June 2026   Hangzhou, China

To promote interdisciplinary integration, drive the intelligent upgrading of the entire TCM industry chain, and enhance the international discourse power of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), the 1st World Congress on Artificial Intelligence in TCM, organized by the World Federation of Chinese Medicine Societies (WFCMS) and hosted by Zhejiang Chinese Medical University(ZCMU), will be held from June 26 to 28, 2026 in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, China. Currently, the application of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies in the field of TCM is in the stage of exploration and initial practice. Attempts have been made in areas such as assisted diagnosis and treatment, analysis of classical formulas, new drug development, and intelligent health preservation, showing certain development potential. This conference aims to establish an industry milestone, a global resource hub, and an industrial accelerator, building a “TCM + AI” ecosystem worth hundreds of billions. Experts, scholars, government officials, and corporate representatives from around the world will gather to share cutting-edge theories, technological achievements, implementation cases, and management policies on AI empowering TCM.

To deepen the integration of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Artificial Intelligence and showcase innovations in “TCM + AI”, the “AI + Modern Chinese Medicine Innovation” Sub-forum, organized by Tianjin University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, will be held concurrently.

IV.Call for Papers:
This session focuses on key scientific questions, enabling technologies, and translational needs in AI-driven modern traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) drug development. It welcomes studies on the innovative application of AI in TCM data integration, bioactive substance discovery, formula innovation, quality control, intelligent manufacturing, safety evaluation, standardization, and internationalization. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, the following areas:
1. Big Data and Knowledge Systems for Modern TCM Drug Development
This topic addresses the fragmentation of TCM-related data, the lack of unified standards, and insufficient knowledge linkage in modern TCM drug development. Contributions may focus on AI-enabled data infrastructure for TCM, including the integration of multi-source data on chemical constituents, pharmacological activities, targets and pathways, clinical applications, adverse reactions, and quality standards. Relevant topics also include TCM knowledge graphs, specialized databases, large language model-based knowledge systems, retrieval-augmented generation systems, association modeling among TCM constituents, targets, pathways, diseases, and syndromes, as well as data standardization, sharing mechanisms, and data security governance.
2. AI-Driven Discovery of Bioactive Substances and TCM Drug Development
This topic focuses on the long development cycle, low efficiency of active compound discovery, and complex mechanisms of action in TCM drug research. Contributions may explore the application of machine learning, deep learning, large language models, and related AI technologies in TCM drug discovery and development. Relevant topics include virtual screening of active compounds, identification of pharmacodynamic material basis, target prediction, mechanism-of-action analysis, multi-omics integration, AI-enhanced network pharmacology, indication discovery, and the secondary development of classical formulas and hospital preparations.
3. AI-Enabled Formula Innovation, Formulation Optimization, and Safety Evaluation
This topic addresses the complexity of TCM formula compatibility, challenges in dose optimization, and the lengthy process of safety assessment. Contributions may examine the use of AI in formula innovation, formulation design, and safety evaluation. Relevant topics include mining compatibility patterns in TCM formulas, modeling interactions among constituents, predicting synergistic effects and toxicity reduction, intelligent formula generation, dose optimization, design of novel TCM formulations, ADMET prediction, toxicity prediction, adverse reaction risk identification, and AI-assisted analysis of clinical safety data.
4. AI for Precision Quality Control and Intelligent Manufacturing of TCM
This topic focuses on quality variability, process complexity, and experience-dependent process control in TCM production. Contributions may explore AI applications in quality assessment, process monitoring, and intelligent manufacturing. Relevant topics include authentication of TCM materials, geographical origin tracing, quality grading, intelligent recognition of processing procedures, online monitoring of extraction and formulation processes, prediction of critical quality attributes, optimization of critical process parameters, intelligent scheduling of production equipment, smart factory development, visual management of production processes, intelligent inspection, and risk early warning.
5. AI-Driven Standardization, Regulatory Translation, and International Development of Modern TCM
This topic focuses on how AI can support the development of evaluable, traceable, translatable, and widely applicable evidence systems for modern TCM drug development. Contributions may examine AI applications in standard development, regulatory submission, regulatory science, and internationalization. Relevant topics include intelligent construction of TCM quality standards and efficacy evaluation standards, AI-assisted preparation and compliance review of regulatory submission documents, clinical trial design and statistical analysis, real-world data and evidence-based evaluation, analysis of international market access requirements, overseas registration and global communication of TCM products, interdisciplinary talent training in “TCM + AI,” and the development of collaborative innovation platforms involving academia, industry, healthcare institutions, and research organizations.
